Review of US Bank Cash+ card

Woman using her US Bank credit card

Best for:

Credit card users who maximize their cash back rewards. For smart shoppers, this card can get you up to 5% cash back on select categories. Great for customers who shop a lot at clothing stores and pay their cell phone bills with credit cards to earn money.

APRs fluctuate based on the Prime Rate based on the Federal Reserve. For the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card, APRs range from 15.74% to 25.24% based on your creditworthiness when you apply for the card.

The 5% cash back is one of the highest cash back rewards for a card that doesn’t charge an annual fee. And the 5% isn’t limited to one category, it’s for two: select clothing stores and cell phone providers. You’ll also earn 2% cash back on the category of your choice: gas stations, grocery stores or restaurants. All other purchases are 1%.

Other perks:

The introductory 0% APR is good for the first 12 months for balances transferred within 60 days of opening the account. You have options for how you want to get your cash back. You can get it in the form of a statement credit, where your earnings pay for your credit card balance. You can also get a direct deposit into your checking or savings account if you use U.S. Bank for those. There’s a rewards card option as well.

Annual Fee:

Other fees:

Minimum interest charge will never be less than $2. Late payment fees up to $39. Balance transfers are 3% of the amount of each transfer or $5, whichever is greater. Cash advances are 4% of the amount of each advance or $10 minimum, whichever is greater. There’s also a 2% to 3% foreign transaction fee.

Bonus: If you qualify for the card and spend $500 within the first 90 days, you can earn a $150 bonus.

How this card might bring joy to your wallet:

If you’ve got your cash back rewards on lock and are a frequent smart spender, this card will work for you. A 5% return is high for credit cards and you should definitely take advantage, if the categories apply to you.

The 0% introductory APR is good, even though 12 months is on the shorter side compared to other cards. This is a good card for active credit card users or those who know how to leverage rewards and points to earn the most back.

How this card might not bring joy to your wallet:

There are specific limitations on the high cash back deals. If you aren’t a big clothing shopper or you pay your cell phone bill in other ways, this won’t be a good card for you.

The 2% cash back on broader categories is nice, but you may find a higher return from other cards, like 3% cash back at restaurants as opposed to 2% offered here.
